Legacies: Commemorating the bicentenary of British abolition

Hidden Stories Trail at Bolton Museum and Archive Service

In August 2007, Bolton Museum and Archive Service developed a gallery trail that re-interpreted objects on display in the context of slavery and its legacies. Central to the trail was Samuel Crompton's Spinning Mule. The only surviving mule made by the inventor himself, it dates to 1802 and is probably the most important object in Bolton's collection.
