Legacies: Commemorating the bicentenary of British abolition

Remembering Slavery Trail at Manchester Art Gallery

The Remembering Slavery trail selected five objects from the gallery's displays and re-interpreted them from the perspective of the history and legacy of slavery. Unlikely and unexpected connections were revealed that demonstrated the often unrecognised impact of the transatlantic slave trade on British culture. Visitors were invited to contribute their own comments which in turn were used as material for a web-based interactive entitled Chained Reactions.

The Remembering Slavery trail was on display at Manchester Art Gallery from 25 March 2007 until 31 March 2008.
